I'm a little depressed about the polls, they've been there for 3 weeks and no one answered.....so sad....

Anyway, as promised, this is the CURRENT HOMEWORK if you didn't get to write it down.

2) Perception (V.P.)

- Explain the difference between these two.
Define:

Update for 9 to 11/4/08

In class, we finished doing the CNS and have finally moved onto to visual perception.

I won't be able to upload the notes that were on the lappy until Ms Chasen sends them. Though she said she has some stuff to add. So that might not be for a while.

ALSO:
MS CHASEN IS HERE! So Ms Chasen is finally a member of blogger. I will frequently check the QUESTIONS FOR MS CHASEN section, and let you know if there are any new posts from her or other students.

Have a good weekend,

Once again, I'll leave these up until the answers for the next polls.

* I will also be leaving the new polls up for 3 weeks because I'm guessing that no one is going to visit the blog until end of holidays unless there is at least 1 person who still wants me to do the polls every week. Don't worry it's cool if you want the polls to continue, chill.
However, if there is a three week gap, then I'll leave 6 polls up (bottom of blog)

Have a good holiday guys! God Bless.

12/3/08 and school anouncement

Yo!

In todays class, we read halfway through a handout and discussed our knowledge of lie detectors.
How cool would it be if the school had a lie detector? lol

Unfortunately we may not be copying down some notes for a while because Ms Chasen's lappy (laptop) is in the sick bay....though some of you may view this as good news....hmm.

Also, if you weren't listening or didn't hear properly.

Answers to polls...(2)

Hiya!

Sorry I didn't get the answers up earlier, like yesterday....Kept falling asleep.
Anyway, these are the answers to the latest polls.

What is the image of the cursor showing? (That is the little thing on the screen which represents your mouse which you use to click things)

The answer was c) Electrical Stimulation of the Brain
I know it was kind of hard to tell without the 30 numbers on the brain and some of you not being able to see it....But come on!!!! 0% out of 3 people got this question wrong! That means no one got it right!!! Lucky it was (kind of) a novelty poll eh?

Memory of sounds of word is found in __________ of the brain. (from Checkpoints)
The answer was d) Wernicke's area

Which 100% of the 4 people that voted got right! YAY!!!!!!! Congrats to those people.

Pick out the expensive brain research method(s) (that is actually mentioned as expensive in the textbook) You can choose multiple answers.

The answers were : b) CT or CAT, d) PET, e) MRI, f) fMRI

This one was a toughie! Now this one is open to debate, you can discuss it in the FREE TALK section or the SUGGESTIONS section or just email me.
33% of 3 people voted for CT
66% of 3 people voted for PET
66% of 3 people voted for MRI
100% of 3 people voted for fMRI
As for the other possible answers, according to my sources they aren't mentioned as expensive.
But well done to the people that voted and gave it a go! :)
__________________________________________
Once again, I will leave the old polls up for a week and then they'll be deleted.

I'm so sorry!!!! - 6/3/08

Hi guys...

I'm really, really sorry...I should have updated last night but I fell asleep until 7 am!!!!!

And then this afternoon...I had so much to do!!!

I should have put the link to the MRI game sooner but hopefully you'll have visited your school email as well which was emailed straight after class. Hopefully you guys followed Ms Chasen's advice to play the Mr Split Brainy game....

I don't think there was much other revision that I could have put up except for scanning pages from study guides....but a lot of people said that I shouldn't.....really sorry if you did....ARGH! I'm just so busy...really sorry I couldn't have given you guys more revision...

Luckily this is the easiest of the outcomes huh?
REMEMBER
Be brief and to the point.
Look at the potential marks awarded as an indication on how many points you should put down.
Put down the answers that you are most sure are correct.

I think that's all the advice that Ms Chasen gave....

AND...

DON'T OVER DO IT!

I have put the MRI game that we played in class on the WEBSITE LINKS VIEWED IN CLASS

Also, I've been looking around the nobelprize.org website and found the other games that they have...if you're interested just go to OTHER INTERESTING WEB LINKS which is also on the left side of the blog. They have games for pretty much every subject...

Psychology is under the "Medicine" section but we've already gone through those games.
However there are Biology, chemistry, literature, etc. subjects also available.

As for what we did in class yesterday and today...we just copied some more notes about the Autonomic Nervous System...and asked a few questions about the outcome. We also received a handout for the Autonomic Nervous System that we filled in, in class today.

Once again guys, I am REALLY, REALLY SORRY that I didn't post earlier....

and

GOOD LUCK!

See you tomorrow.

Update for handout

Hi guys

I'm sure all of you who have checked their school emails already will know this but Ms Chasen sent the updated version of "The Brain" notes....the ones about the different lobes, cortexes, etc.

The updated version contains the ethics that you need to know for the outcome. Very important.

I have also updated the blog version of the handout, it's still in the same section under MISS OUTS and is labelled UPDATED!

Good luck for the outcome!

Handy, handy edumate

Good evening...

wow, so formal...well, not anymore.

I'm sure all of you have heard of edumate? The school program that we can access on the internet from home? Yeah, now it's coming back.

I hadn't taken much attention to edumate. However, the maths staff have been stressing very strongly that they will be relying very heavily on edumate this year.

Anyway, so I went to check out the Psychology section and I found some quick revision for year 11 psych! I've already put it up on the blog, so you don't have to worry about trying to find it on edumate, but still check out edumate! Who knows what other stuff is on there for your other subjects. In terms of Bio 3 & 4...It's like another world! (sorry, I couldn't help but add the drama in.)

The year 11 psych revision can be found in the MISS OUTS section to the left of this site/blog. It is labeled "NEW".

Hope you find it handy!

As requested

For anyone that requested more optical illusions, your wish has been granted.

They're in the same section as last time "Other interesting web links" section to the left of the screen. The new ones are labeled as "NEW".

Note about the Mr Split Brainy game

Fellow psych students! I have completed the Mr Split Brainy game....lol, such bravado.....Ai ya...

This is how to complete the game.

Anyway, the game really isn't that hard, just do all the little cards when you're experimenting and when you get to writing the proposal for further experimentation correct the errors, e.g clicking on RIGHT to make say LEFT instead.

Once you've got all the LEFT and RIGHTs in the right spots, send the proposal. Your proposal will only get accepted if you did the proposal right.
Afterwards, you do a little more further experimentation on Mr Split Brainy...resulting a ina conclusion that you should already know...

You then have to select between two articles, and you pick the right one. After that, if you got everything right, the game ends with you becoming a famous scientist/psychologist! Yay!!!!

3/3/08

Hello!

Sorry guys, for those of you tried already and let me know ASAP the link for the answers for the handout that Ms Diangelo gave us is now fully functioning....Sorry, my mistake. :(

Please let me know if it is still not working. ASAP

For today's class we just asked a few questions about the outcome, such as:
1) Is the stuff we did in class today going to be on the outcome?
NO.

2) Are there multiple choice questions?
NO

That's just a couple of questions because there were quite a few (which I admit mostly came from me.... :P )

We also wrote down some notes about the Autonomous Nervous System, remember IT IS NOT THE OTHER "A...." word!

Ms Chasen has also told me that the Mr Split Brainy is really, really good revision! The Mr Split Brainy thing has been on the site for a while now, but if you didn't know, it's on the left hand side of the page under "WEBSITE LINKS VIEWED IN CLASS"...

____________________________________________
I have also added the handout from Ms Chasen about the different types of brain research methods under MISS OUTS. So if you don't have it check it out.

____________________________________________
IMPORTANT: For those of you who are not copying down the notes on the board, or the projector and just assuming that you don't have to take notes because they'll get sent to you...WRITE THE NOTES!!!!!!!!!
What will happen if Ms Chasen gets a computer virus the month before a outcome or EXAM??? And she hasn't got the notes anymore? Are you really willing to bother your friends who may or may not have written down the notes?

I know I may be over dramatizing it quite a bit, but you always have to be prepared! "What if....?" Also guys, when you get to UNI, no lecturer is going to send you some notes that they might have on the board, they expect YOU to have written your OWN notes!

I'm sorry if this is out of place for a student to be talking about this stuff. But I'm getting really ticked off at the people who keep asking me to put the notes that Ms Chasen currently has on the board to be put onto the blog! It is Ms Chasen who decides what goes on the blog.
Please just write the notes!

Revision tips and blog/site tips

Wazzup!

(ahem)...getting to more serious matters....

I know that a majority of the class just can't be bothered to view the site but I can guarantee you it will help!!!!!

Reading the site updates is pretty important, then you can have an idea of what is going on in class and what is going on in the site.

At the moment I am contemplating making a separate page/site that is devoted entirely to multiple choice questions...but I'll only do this when there's an outcome or the big exams are nearby...Because that's just a lot of effort...but it would be good revision for all of us, including me!

Here's a study tip! GET A TICKING TIMER!!!!

This isn't an order....I just happen to have one at home because I asked for one when I was like 6 years old because I liked the fact that it looked like a piece of corn....ANYWAY, I'm using while I'm revising, I've noticed that it pumps up adrenaline. Sort of feels like you have to do something before a bomb goes off. It may be distracting for some, if so then don't continue. But I find it helps me to stay focused and work really hard because I want to get a set amount of work done before the timer goes DING DING DING DING DING DING DING!!!!

I admit it's kind of scary when it goes off... :)

I have also added a FREE TALK section that you guys can put pretty much whatever you want in there. You can even the abuse the webmaster! (which is me, but go ahead if you want). The FREE TALK section is located under "blog archive" which is at the top left corner of the site, under FEBRUARY, at the bottom of the list...

Hmm...maybe these time codes aren't so great, you guys can see what time I'm up at typing this update....lol... :P

ANSWERS to polls...

Hiya!

If you didn't know the polls are located near the bottom of the site, you can only vote once!
Anyway...
These are the answers to the latest polls:

What is the function of the Broca's area?

The answer was c) controls muscles associated with the use of language.

Unfortunately only 40% of the 5 people who voted got this question right....come on guys!

Neglect syndrome usually occurs in:

The answer was a) Right Hemisphere

YAY! 100% of the 2 people that voted got this right! Kudos to the people that voted!

NOVELTY poll - In the last shown episode of Grey's Anatomy (24/2/08, 8:30pm, channel 7) What does Dr Derek Shepard refer to when looking at a computer image of a brain?

The answer was b) Broca's area

50% of the 2 people that voted got this right! That means one person....lol

I will delete these polls at the end of next week when I put up the answers for the new polls.

UPDATES FOR SITE

Yo!

Hello fellow classmates,

as those of you who have been bothered to visit the site and vote on the SUGGESTIONS poll, which is still continuing until the 10/3/08...

I have added a FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS section, a SUGGESTIONS and a QUESTIONS FOR MS CHASEN SECTION...

These can be found at the bottom of the "blog archive" section under FEBRUARY, which is now located at the top right hand corner of the site. The blog archive will also show any old posts that are no longer on the main page.

I've also made the cursor a brain! being stimulated by electrical charges!!! Hopefully you guys can see it...please be able to see it. Unfortunately, you can only see the little brain when you are using Internet Explorer. I use Firefox when I'm editing the site, so I can't see it... :)

ALSO - very exciting, we now have EST time codes!!!!!!! meaning it's not some USA time, it is Melbourne time!!!!!
_____________________
I'll hopefully get the other voted suggestions up soon, but it's still a work in progress, be patient guys, I'm just like you... :)

IMPORTANT notes on MISS OUTS

Hi guys,

if you haven't tried already, for the word documents and powerpoint(s) that Ms Chasen has sent us, I've put them on the MISS OUTS section using a certain Google service, which we shall call G1...

However, for scanned documents, say for instance the handout from Ms Diangelo, I have had to use another Google service, which I shall call G2...

On G2, it's a bit different from G1, I suggest that you open it like the school bulletin.

When you've clicked the link, select DOWNLOAD PHOTO to the right of the page, and a little box will show up, just select OPEN...

then you should be able to view it, and at the bottome of the new window, you'll be able to zoom in and out to read the bits that you might not be able to see...

_____

Please let me know if these instructions don't quite make sense....

UPDATES for 29/2/08 LEAP DAY!!!!

Hi ya'll

Okey-dokey, today we got to spend some quality time with our new student teacher!!! Ms Diangelo (forgive me if I didn't spell her name right......I wish she had written her name on the board)...

Anyway, as mentioned in the latest IMPORTANT post, Ms Chasen was at a psychology conference.
In class we basically just did some handouts. I have the answers and I am going to scan it so that everyone knows the right answers. However, try to do the entire worksheet first.

I think I'll put it as a separate link under MISS OUTS otherwise it'll just take up too much space on the site....

I think that's all we did...

Wednesday, February 27, 2008

IMPORTANT

NO CLASS for 28/2/08 because of the teacher strike from periods 1 - 4...

Also, on Friday, i think Ms Chasen will be at a Psychology conference and we'll get to spend some quality time with the student teacher :) whose name we'll hopefully learn soon...

Update 27/2/08

What did we do today?

We blew up some balloons and then drew the brain part on them; pons, medulla, frontal lobe, primary motor cortex, etc.

And we got to see Greg's balloon (Beatrice?) move across the room every now and then...

We got to see the student teacher, who we unfortunately have no idea what her name is...Hopefully we'll know soon.

We copied down some notes about the Central Nervous System (not part of the outcome).

However, a lot of people have been asking that the notes that we're currently copying off the board in class be placed straight on the blog rather than having to copy down the notes.
Ms Chasen and I both agree that it's a good idea to write down the notes first and then when you've written down all the notes she'll forward us the typed up notes.
I'm cool with that, she's the one who knows memory (unit 4)....

So guys, make sure you copy down the notes because there is NO GUARNTEE that Ms Chasen will send us all the notes. It's up to ourselves to work hard and not fully rely on her.
Copying down notes first and then reading the typed up notes is good revision.

I think that's all we did today.

Make sure you do your revision (the powerpoint is now located in the MISS OUTS section) and don't forget to do the workbook!

I'll try to get the notes from the study guides up on the site by the weekend, but there's no guarantee...I have outcomes too... :(

Good luck!

UPDATES for 26/2/08

Hi guys,

those of you who made it to the lunchtime lesson good work!

- I'll have the powerpoint revision for the upcoming outcome on the site as soon as Ms Chasen sends it.

- I'm also working on scanning the handouts to make sure that everyone has got anything but it might take a while because there's a lot (and I've got a few outcomes coming up....)

- If you guys haven't tried already, the Mr Split Brainy link wasn't completely functional, but that's fixed now so it should be good revision.

- Hopefully within the next two weeks I'll be able to put links to youtube so that we can find relevant videos for class. I should be able to reconfigure the site so that you can watch the video on this site rather than clicking on a link, fingers crossed. :)

- I've changed the settings for the blog so that people don't need to be a member of Blogger to make comment, but it would be really nice if you guys put down your names and not just type "Anonymous"...However, let me know if this doesn't work.

- I've decided to extend the poll about improvements for the site to the 10/3/08 rather than until the 1/3/08...

- All polls will be relevant to recent work (except the "NOVELTY" ones) and will end Fridays every week except for if there is an upcoming outcome that would make the poll really handy quick revision. The novelty poll is located beneath the pictures of the study guides on the left side of the site.
NOVELTY polls will end every Friday.

- Hopefully in the next week, I will also have added the suggestions for what people want to do to improve the site from the incomplete poll results.

- Email me questions for what to put in the "Frequently Asked Questions" section, at either my school email: fon0056@balwynhs.vic.edu.au
or my home email: sf15391@hotmail.com

- And EVERYONE start begging Ms Chasen to come and visit the blog regularly otherwise the suggestions poll for "c) an individual questions section for Ms Chasen" won't work.

______________________

I think that's all the updates for today. Sorry there's a lot... :)

Good luck in preparing for the poster outcome!

Saturday, February 23, 2008

IMPORTANT

Don't forget that we have a lesson at lunchtime in B13 on 26th of February 2008!!!!!

DID YOU MISS OUT ON A HANDOUT????

Ok guys,

I've done some research and if you missed out on a handout or a worksheet or something, there is now a link available for you to go and find it on the web, the links for the missed out handouts or emails from Ms Chasen are labelled as "MISS OUTS"

I also have a friend who sent me some very handy notes and these can be found on the top right hand of the home page, above the "website links viewed in class". This will labelled as "HANDY REVISION". Also in this section will be some files that I have scanned from study books that will be very handy when preparing for outcomes and the big exams....

First Post

Hi guys,

Steph here, yeah the annoying Asian kid who keeps asking useless questions.

Ms Chasen and I have been talking about this blog for a while but we finally decided to set it up tonight. I'll basically just update the blog whenever Ms Chasen wants me to update it or if I just want to put something really cool on...e.g illusions!

The basic purpose of this blog is:

1) To keep up to date with the work done in class.

2) Ask questions about things that you might not understand.

3) Have links to files or websites that may be relevant to the course outline or something that you may have missed because your school inbox was full. (I should be able to figure this out...)

4) Give a review of the things that we have done and are currently doing; and where you should be up to in class.

5) Discussions about stuff you might not understand.

6) Study tips

7) Cool stuff, like youtube videos, illusions, IQ test, etc....

NEW!!!! 8) Upload links to missed out handouts from class

That's all I can think of for now, but if I think of any more then I will add ASAP.

Feedback would be very helpful too.

An apology in advance, my typing skills aren't the greatest so if I make a mistake; forgive me. :)

Have any suggestions?
email me at my school email: fon0056@balwynhs.vic.edu.au
or my home email: sf15391@hotmail.com

RULES

Ok guys you know the drill.

Classroom rules; no offensive language, be polite to each other, etc.

___________

Email me if you have any suggestions or something like that....

"Ms Chasen take the stage!"

CURRENT HOMEWORK

1) Have read pages 67 - 119.

2) Write summaries if needed.

3) Do learning activities.

4) Questions at the end of each section.

5) Read handout sent out by Ms Chasen via school email, if you did not receive the file, then email me either at fon0056@balwynhs.vic.edu.au or sf15391@hotmail.com and I will forward it to you.

6) Revise for outcome and good luck! :)

QUESTIONS SECTION FOR MS CHASEN

Hi Guys,

Steph here....yes unfortunately me...lol

Ok as the FEW people who did the poll (which is still running until the 10/3/08) requested this is the MS CHASEN QUESTIONS SECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!

So basically you guys just post questions here, make sure you put your name and the time that you posted at the bottom of your question, and then hopefully Ms Chasen will answer online so everyone can view the question and answer. That cool?

Once again let me know if there are any questions that you may have. My email is pretty much all over the posts. :)

SUGGESTIONS

Hi guys,

this is the requested SUGGESTIONS section!

You guys can put whatever you want here, any suggestions for the blog or something else that needs suggesting...

If you have any questions, my email is:
fon0056@balwynhs.vic.edu.au
sf15391@hotmail.com

ENJOY!!!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Hi guys,

as you requested, I introduce to you the FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ) section!!!!!!!

trumpet noises

Okey dokey, for this section, I ask you not to put any posts otherwise people will get confused about what is a question and what is a student post....if you catch my drift...
If I do see any other posts, I will DELETE them. However, if you have a question regarding the FAQ, email me or put a post in the SUGGESTIONS post...

so that means FAQ is READ ONLY, and SUGGESTIONS is go spastic on putting posts!

FREE TALK!!!!

Howdy!

This is the free talk section. You guys can talk about whatever you want in here, hopefully relating to psychology...Think of it as a really, really, really, really slow version of Messenger...lol
